About

A colposcopy is a procedure to examine the vagina and cervix using a magnifying instrument called a colposcope. It's often done if there are abnormal Pap smear results or other concerns about the cervix. During the procedure, any abnormal areas may be biopsied for further examination. It helps to diagnose conditions like cervical cancer or precancerous changes. For specific diagnoses, a biopsy of the lining of the uterus (endometrium), may be indicated. Local anesthesia may be used during your procedure.
